Valve has updated the sticker set released in honor of the Rio majors

Criticism of the sticker set, which was released on October 21, rang out almost immediately and was voiced by many, including content-makers, professional players and collectors. It turned out that the set did not include all the player signatures that were originally planned to be added, and some inscriptions were poorly readable.

Poor design and missing signatures

The sticker set caused disappointment among many community members who follow such updates and collect in-game items. One major problem was that the captions were white lines on a light colored background. Because of this, if you put a sticker on a weapon, it became virtually unreadable. For holographic stickers, the problem was even more pronounced than for paper stickers because of the additional visual effect.

Some majors were also dissatisfied. Following the release of the in-game kit, several players posted their own versions of the signatures they suggested – . It turned out that Valve ended up opting for more minimalistic designs. A typical example – of the BIG sticker problem. The team's white logo was shown on a light-colored background, making the sticker artwork hard to see. In addition, the developers didn't take into account the changes in the team composition: although Joseph «faveN» Baumann is missing the tournament due to health problems, it was his sticker that was included in the set, and not Elias «s1n» Stein's sticker, who replaces him.

Update with fixes

So, less than a week after release Valve had to release an update to the sticker set.  Shadows were added to the paper and holographic stickers to make the backgrounds more contrasty. The other types of stickers were left unchanged as there were no such problems with them. This solution was considered «lazy by some», as the developers did not redesign individual images, but simply added a common effect for all. However, readability has improved either way. Here, for example, is how the ropz sticker changed after the update:

Additionally, Valve has added new items to the Majors shopping list. Players can now buy «Rio 2022 StorageUnit» with paper or glitter stickers. Such a set includes 145 stickers of the appropriate type – one for each team and each player in the majors. At the same time, the container interface has also been improved, with features for easy browsing and sorting.
