Swedish authorities have simplified entry for PGL Major participants

Swedish authorities made a decision this week that makes it more likely that PGL Major Stockholm will be held offline. They included cyber sports tournaments among the professional sports events whose participants can enter the country without having to comply with the restrictions applicable to other travelers.

Thus, one of the two conditions that the tournament organizers cited as necessary for the tournament to take place is met. As PGL has previously stated, it is necessary for the staff and players to be able to enter the country without hindrance and, in addition, for a large number of spectators to be able to attend the event.

Swedish Minister of Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind said she was pleased that international eSports events could be held despite the pandemic. She emphasized that Sweden has long been considered one of the leaders in cybersports and should maintain this position.

Thus, the only problem for the organization of the major now remains the restrictions on mass events. Their current rules may not allow for 16,000 spectators at the Avicii Arena. The final decision date will be Sept. 15, and the tournament itself is scheduled to run from Oct. 23 to Nov. 7.
