Dota 2 Rankings

15 December 2021, 13:39

In this material, let's understand what is the Dota 2 ranking. Valve itself is not in a hurry to share figures and official statistics, so the information is more of an introductory nature, as it was collected «from a thread» by many players.

The whole process of MMR points accumulation can be divided into 3 stages:

  • games before calibration;

  • calibration of the Dota rating;

  • games after calibration.

The second point: only regular and, strangely enough, ranked matches are suitable for increasing the rating. Training with live players and bots does not count. Otherwise, Dota would have long been flooded with masters and 5000 MMR and more.

Let's say right away that — rating is far from the only value used by the game to select teams. The system also focuses on the following parameters:

  • experience — number of games played regardless of their success;

  • performance — how you show yourself in each of the 5 roles, how useful you are for the team;

  • gold difference — how much you managed to earn in a certain period of time compared to your opponent;

  • loyalty — without matting, licks, kicks and yelling in voice chat.

This is how ranking works in Dota 2. With the base sorted out, let's move on.

How to find out your rating in Dota 2

This question is probably of interest to all fans of big beautiful numbers. The algorithm of actions is quite simple:

Go into the game and go to your profile;

If you can't see the numbers, click the Edit button.

In the drop-down menu, you should see the numbers for single and group rating.

In this example, you can see that both scales are blank because the account has never participated in any games.

Similar statistics will be seen by all players who have played less than 5 rinks solo or in a pack.

Also note that you can see the rating in Dota 2 after each new update after completing 10 consecutive rolls. Only in this case it will be possible to recalibrate the indicator, but we will come back to this a little later. In other words, MMR statistics still need to be confirmed.

What is calibration

Calibration in Dota allows a matchmaker to understand what a player's current skill is.

The system evaluates a number of parameters necessary to reach a verdict. Among them:

  • GPM (gold per minute);

  • XPM (experience per minute);

  • Heal performance;

  • damage output;

  • building damage.

Stats are read for 10 consecutive games. That said, you don't have to do all the rinks on the same day — enough time during the season. On the other hand, you will not be able to quickly calibrate the rating in Dota 2: a typical rink lasts from 40 to 60 minutes.

To competently play the necessary ten, try to forget what conflicts with your teammates and opponent are. Focus on your overall win percentage, as MMR directly affects this. Emphasis should be on value and damage dealt.

If you look at the table, you can get the following result after 10 games:

In other words, if you finished last season with 3500 MMR and won 10 calibration games, the system can count from 4300 to 4500 MMR.

You can recalibrate your score only at the beginning of a new season. So try to play nice. Each successful roll adds about 25 points to the MMR, while an unsuccessful roll takes away the same amount. We wrote about it in more detail in this material

Although there is another option in the settings of the Account section.

It will help to recalibrate the Dota 2 rating by resetting the current indicator and opening 10 test games. But do you need it, especially at high levels where the chance of merging is multiples of successful rolls. This approach is good if you want to quickly increase the cups and know exactly what team you will be razing the opponent with. But if you are not sure — it is better to leave the MMR indicator in its current state.

How to get a rating in Dota

Many newcomers probably do not understand what points and MMR we are talking about at all. It's all about the fact that you can only get a rating in Dota 2 with 100 hours spent in the game. In this case, sitting pants in the menu, lobby and single games do not count — only online with a real opponent.

You should adhere to some restrictions:

    .
  • No turbo modes, only All Pick;

  • Pick 1-2 roles that you can really handle, or heroes seem easy. We have already written about the top for newcomers in detail;

  • .
  • Behave with decency and dignity — Steam likes such things, but strikes just the opposite;

  • Try to learn something new, to suffer bullshit 100 hours in a row will bore even the most rugged pofigist. And so at least understand the top bindings and basic mechanics of interaction by role.

Why we are against turbo mode if you want to play rating in Dota 2? Because it's all about speed and the rink lasts 10-15 minutes each. During this time, it is physically impossible to know where to run and what to do. Even the experienced ones get lost from time to time. The new guy's gonna get eaten. Any slip-up — will cause a fuss in the chat room that no one wants. In All Pick, the game is more measured, so there's a much better chance of acclimatizing.

As «military trick» you can create your own lobby with like minded newbies, and then stick there in 10 satisfied faces until the meter runs out. The main thing — create at least some semblance of activity, because bots are not liked anywhere. The method, by the way, is legal, so no one is going to ban anyone.
