Tournament organizer PGL has announced which teams will play in the opening matches of the RMR event for the Americas, which starts next Monday. The 16 entrants will compete for the six spots that are set aside in the majors for teams from the region. The qualifying stage will feature some of the most successful teams from the two continents, including FURIA, Liquid, Complexity and Evil Geniuses.
The opening matches of the tournament will be played in two parallel streams. Monday will begin with FURIA playing against Argentine team Leviatan, while the Party Astronauts – will simultaneously take on South American Isurus. Other notable matches of the day include – MIBR vs 9z and Liquid vs 00Nation, which will be played towards the end of the day.
Thus, the starting day of the tournament will feature two starting rounds of the qualifying round, which is played under the Swiss system. The teams with a win in the opening matches will then play against each other, while those with one loss will continue to participate in the qualifiers in a separate stream. Further distribution of teams in the grid will also depend on the number of points scored. The final list of contenders from the Americas who will advance to the majors will be known on April 15.
