Hand customization in CS:GO

25 July 2021, 23:45

If you don't like the default position of a knife or weapon, you can use such an option as hand customization in CS:GO. This technique is better known among gamers as Viewmodel.

The topic is not the easiest one, because adjusting the hand position in CS GO is based on a three-dimensional model based on a three-axis grid:

viewmodel_offset_x — viewmodel position on the x-axis. -2 to 2.5. The weapon moves from left to right. Much emphasis is placed on the position of the stock, while the front sight remains in place. Essentially, these are changes to the hand display style;
viewmodel_offset_y — Viewmodel position on the y-axis. -2 to 2. The parameter is responsible for the visual display of arm length on the screen, i.e. visually extending, or shortening wrists and forearms;
viewmodel_offset_z — Viewmodel position on the z-axis. -2 to 2. Allows you to either lower the weapon so that only the muzzle is sticking out, or raise your arms up as much as possible. It is clearly not a good idea to get carried away with maximum values.

We agree, the information is difficult to understand, but we will try to explain the principle as detailed and clear as possible.

Basic commands

To begin with, let's look at the standard commands for customizing hands in CS:GO. Let's start with the first — viewmodel_presetpos. It shows an arrangement identical to the game menu. There are three customization options:

1 — standard position;

2 — hands enlarged;

3 — classic look like in CS 1.6.

.

It is written in the console as viewmodel_presetpos 1 (2 or 3).

Next are the commands to change the position of the arms on the screen:

cl_righthand — arms are located on the right side;

cl_lefthand — arms on the left.

For those who may be uncomfortable with dynamically approaching limbs during movement, the developers have provided the command cl_bob_lower_amt

The

range of values can be set from 5 to 30 units (the number is added after amt with a space). The lower the — value, the less shake.

Another command — viewmodel_fov performs similar functions. However, it allows you to zoom in or zoom out the player's camera.

This set of standard commands allows you to perform a detailed customization of hands in CS GO through the console.

Presets for beginners

If you do not want to dig into the settings yourself, or want to start from ready-made templates for customizing the position of the hands in CS GO, we offer several options:

Central position of arms, hands as far away from the screen as possible:

viewmodel_offset_x -2
viewmode_offset_y 2
viewmode_offset_z -2
viewmodel_fov 68

Full offset to the right side, also as far away

from the screen

as possible:

viewmodel_offset_x 2
viewmodel_offset_y 2
viewmodel_offset_z -1
viewmodel_fov 68

Slightly tweaked standard hand and scope setup layout in CS:GO with slight arm distance:

viewmodel_offset_x 1
viewmodel_offset_y 2
viewmodel_offset_z -2
viewmodel_fov 68

And this is the second customization, where you can also see a slight forward shift, with the arms shifted to the right as much as possible:

viewmodel_offset_x 2
viewmodel_offset_y 2
viewmodel_offset_z -2
viewmdoel_fov 68

And this is an out-of-the-box example that also has a right to life. Not only are the guns offset to the right side, but they are extremely cocked upwards. Perhaps someone will like this hand setup from the CS:GO workshop:

viewmodel_offset_x 2
viewmodel_offset_y 2
viewmodel_offset_z 2
viewmodel_fov 68

This is what the difference between maximum distance

and zooming in

And this is how you can visually see the average arm lengths.

Removing oscillations

Realism in CS GO with respect to the physics of limb behavior — is a commendable step. But not everyone is comfortable with it. Therefore, the developers allowed gamers to independently control «shake» weapons in both running and walking modes. Let's consider all variants

Oscillations when Shift key is pressed (the lower the value — the less shaking):

cl_viewmodel_shift_left_amt 0.5-2
cl_viewmodel_shift_right_amt 0.25-2

Oscillations during classic running (average values are set, which can be varied in steps of 0.1)

:

cl_bob_lower_amt 5
cl_bobamt_lat 0.1
cl_bobamt_vert 0.1
cl_bobcycle 0.98

This concludes the standard commands. And yes, we realize that some points are still unclear. So let's move on to the next point.

Cards for hand adjustment in CS GO

In

the Steam workshop you can find a lot of tutorial cards that allow you to adjust the position of the weapon on the screen more clearly.

One of them is — crashz' Viewmodel Generator, which you can download from this link. Don't be afraid — it's direct from the workshop. And how to install such content in the game, we laid out in this material

Visually, the map looks as follows

Hand customization in CS:GO 7

It allows you to set the necessary position of the limbs as accurately as possible, focusing on the step with minimal values. Quite visual and handy for those who found console commands too complicated.

Also the map displays top bindings of leading PRO-gamers, which allowed to put the material in free access.

And for those who want an in-depth look at Simpl's hand setup in CS GO — here you go:

viewmodel_fov 68

viewmodel_offset_x 2.5

viewmodel_offset_y 0

viewmodel_offset_z -1.5

viewmodel_presetpos

cl_viewmodel_shift_left_amt 1.5;

cl_viewmodel_shift_right_amt 0.75

viewmodel_recoil 0; cl_righthand 1

We wouldn't advise drawing a particular bind maximally, because everyone has their own preferences. You can try, but it is unlikely that you will like someone else's value, to which the gamer approached independently, and not one day.

If you are already copying everything in a row, then here and the sight is presented — please read in detail:

cl_crosshairalpha 255

cl_crosshaircolor 0

cl_crosshairdot 1

cl_crosshairgap -999

cl_crosshairsize 1

cl_crosshairstyle 4

cl_crosshairusealpha 1

cl_crosshairthickness 1

cl_crosshair_drawoutline 0

cl_crosshair_sniper_width 1

cl_crosshaircolor_b 0

cl_crosshaircolor_g 255

cl_crosshaircolor_r 0

Bind is for reference only, but corresponds to current data from the 2021 season.
