Preparatory stage

Replacing files — is only half the battle. The game understands only video files with WEBM extension. This format was originally developed by Google as a lightweight replacement for AVI, MP4 and other analogs to relieve the burden on YouTube's servers. Plus, it is supported by most modern browsers and players. This also applies to games, in particular ours. 

In other words, to replace the background  in the CS GO menu, you need a background exclusively with WEBM resolution.

Let's move on and go to the directory in which all the clips for displaying in the background. They are located at the following URL.

Disk may vary. It all depends on where exactly you download games downloaded from Steam.

Now you have to go into the game and see what exactly is behind your character. It is this file that we will be changing next. On the example you can see that in our case «Ancient map will go under the knife» .

In the folder with video you can see that 3 files fall under this category at once:

• ancient.webm;

• ancient540.webm;

• ancient720.webm.

To change the background in the lobby of CS:GO, we will touch all of them at once, because they are automatically set to the necessary resolution of the monitor.

Now the most interesting — search for a suitable substrate on the Internet, or in personal archives. Let's say you're a fan of top PRO teams like NaVi, Virtus.Pro, or Astralis. Basically, it doesn't matter. The background can be absolutely any video on YouTube or other sites. The main condition — WEBM resolution.

For the example, we picked the coolest possible M4A4 Voi backing, which fits perfectly with the concept of the game.

It remains only to throw it to the rest of the files and replace the sources. To do this, we create 3 copies of the video and rename them to «ancient», so that we get this picture.

We duplicated the originals below just in case, but you can get them back another way. More on him later.

Now just change the files by simply dragging and dropping them into the Steam folder. If everything went correctly, and it is very difficult to make a mistake with the replacement of the main background in CS:GO, quit the game and enter it again. You'll see a picture like this.

You have to admit, the modified background looks much more interesting. At least, it's fresher and more original than the bleakness that has been in front of your eyes for the past few months, or even years.

Finding the right video

Although there are plenty of ready-made options for changing the background in CS GO on the Internet, you can use any video you find on YouTube or upload it yourself. The main thing is that it plus or minus harmonize with the game and was not provocative, but it is exclusively to your taste and color.

When downloading a video, it is enough to write in the line with the link SS before YouTube. It looks like this.

After that, press Enter and go to the page where you can download the video. The system will offer several options with different resolutions, but we need WEBP only. By the way, in the case of this site, the video is in 1080P, and without sound, which is a double victory.

Now save it to your PC, make two copies and rename it according to the manual. It's not a big deal. All that remains is to change the background in the panorama folder in CS:GO.

Reset the changes to the original state

In fact, many people underestimate the usefulness of this command. It allows you to return the game to «out of the box», removing any custom files, modified icons, and «left» values it thinks it has. 

To get started, log into your Steam account via the PC app and find the properties of your CS GO game (the gear next to the Play button).

Here you are interested in the item «Local files», and to be more precise — check their integrity. Click and wait while the system finds the changes and downloads original copies of the modified files and folders from the Internet.

The procedure will take some time. It all depends on the speed of your Internet connection and the power of your PC.

Important: Integrity check removes absolutely all modifications, including overwritten configuration files, bindings and other changes. Don't forget to make a backup.
