Swedish team fnatic announced earlier this week that they will send Jesper «JW» Wexell to inactivate. The cybersports organization explained that this decision – part of plans for a global lineup overhaul. Mikeil «Golden» Selim, who previously served as an in-game leader, was also removed from the active roster in early July. So far, management has not commented on its plans for the three remaining players or who might fill the vacated spots.
This decision was made after the team suffered a number of setbacks in the first half of 2021. In the last four major competitions, fnatic has come in last or penultimate place. As a result, it dropped to 38th place in the HLTV – rankings the lowest since 2017.
Fnatic manager and head coach Andreas «Samuellsson» Samuelsson explained the changes in the team as follows: «After six weeks of thorough evaluations and hard work, we decided to send Jesper to the reserves. We spent many hours discussing what path to take to bring fnatic back to its former dignity, and now our decision – to assemble an international roster». By now, JW has been playing for fnatic for over seven years and his contract expires in early 2022.
