Germany's BIG team won the Gamers Without Borders 2021 charity tournament. The project, which was organized with the support of the Saudi Arabian Federation of Cyber Sports and Mind Games (SAFEIS), drew a total prize pool of $1.5 million. All teams donated the proceeds to various charitable organizations.
The Gamers Without Borders 2021 tournament took place from July 22 to 28. It featured eight teams at the top of the world rankings, including FaZe, mousesports, MIBR, and others. The higher the players placed in the competition, the larger the portion of the prize pool they could dispose of, choosing which charitable projects to allocate it to. The organizers of the competition, which was held for the second year in a row, explained that their main goal – was to help developing countries and vulnerable communities fight the coronavirus pandemic.
The competition was held in two stages: first, matches were played within two groups of four teams each, and then the group leaders competed for first place in a playoff. All matches were played in a best of 3 format. As a result, the leaders of the tournament were BIG (they donated the prize money to International Medical Corps), FURIA and ENCE (these two teams sent the winnings to UNICEF).
