Danish team Astralis lost to Gambit in the group qualifying match at IEM Summer and will now leave the tournament. With the 2 – 0 defeat, the Astralis find themselves in 9 – 12th place. This result – was another disappointment for the team's fans after they finished sixth at Flashpoint 3 and expected at least the same or better result at IEM Summer.
The most successful player in the Gambit vs Astralis match was Sergey «Ax1Le» Rykhtorov, who achieved a rating of 1.81. On Inferno, the CIS team managed to gain an advantage from the start, and although Astralis were able to gain a few points, Gambit finished the card very convincingly, winning seven rounds in a row. They managed to maintain their dominance on Overpass as well, leaving that map behind them with a score of 16 – 7. Now Gambit need one more win to advance to the next part of the tournament – they will soon play against Complexity.
Another notable match of the group stage was OG's victory over Virtus.pro. The latter will now have to fight for the finals in the lower bracket of the tournament, while OG will play an elimination match against Evil Geniuses. The IEM Summer group stage will conclude this week, with key playoff games taking place June 12 – 13.
