European Apeks, which now has players from Slovakia, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, won the Tipsport Bratislava Cup tournament held in Bratislava, Slovakia. The team, currently ranked 29th in the world ranking, performed almost flawlessly at this LAN event. It defeated ECLOT and Enterprise in the group stage to secure a playoff spot and then edged out eSuba and SINNERS on its way to the main trophy.
The championship title and roughly $22,000 in prize money will be some consolation for Apeks, who, while performing well since assembling her current roster in January, has been unable to qualify for the BLAST Spring Showdown or secure a spot at the European RMR tournament.
Further complicating matters for Apeks was the fact that one of its members, Martinv «STYKO» Stika, tested positive for coronavirus on the eve of the playoffs. Although the Slovakian cyber athlete could not participate in matches with the others because of this, the tournament organizers allowed him to connect to the game from behind the stage. In the end, these difficulties did not prevent him from a high performance. He was the highest scorer on the team along with Tim «nawwk» Jonasson, posting a 1.22 rating.
