Ukrainian team Akuma has announced its disbandment. On Friday, a post about it was published by one of its members Evgeny «j3kie» Sergachev, and the next day the information was confirmed by other members.
The team found itself in the spotlight a few months ago when it unexpectedly came third in the EPIC League CIS. She was suspected of foul play, and other tournament participants wrote to Valve, urging the organization to enforce stricter anti-cheating protocols during competitions. In addition, several Akuma Project representatives were investigated due to suspicious betting on match results. As a result, ESIC recommended tournament organizers not to accept bids from Akuma or any other teams with more than three members.
After the unexpected success at the EPIC League CIS, the team has never managed to show a similar level. At the next ranking tournament for CIS countries, Star Ladder CIS RMR, she could not get higher than 9 – 10th place. Even more disappointing was the recent performance at IEM Fall CIS, where the team lost all five matches, ended up in last place and missed the chance to get to the PGL Major in Stockholm.
